“One of the great honky tonk records of its time!” enthuses AllMusic of this late 50s recording that features Billy Byrd on guitar and Floyd Cramer on piano alongside Tubb and Tommy Jackson, who played on hundreds of country classic, on fiddle. Released at a high point in Tubb’s career amid controversy over a rival touring country show run by former Opry bureau chief Jim Denny. Tubb and Hank Snow’s two-day festival was usurped by Denny’s free gig and a gunfight of sorts took place with the seemingly mild mannered Ernest found drunk in control of a .357 magnum shooting up a window frame. Proper western stuff just adding to the legend.
